Now that it’s March, the holidays are well over and people everywhere are settling in with their new gifts, many of whom received electronics. Whether or not they are still using those electronics, however, is a different story. Many purchased a nice gift for someone, but it wasn’t exactly needed, maybe not even wanted. Some may be wondering how to read someones text messages without having their phone, but many may already have the answer.
Those who received such gifts may have these electronics sitting in their garage or attic. Maybe someone got a digital camera they don’t use, DVDs they don’t want, or a TV they never watch. Whatever the case is, there is a chance that someone has received electronics they don’t want or need, and now they don’t know what to do with them.
Getting Rid of Unwanted Electronics
Selling Electronics Online
There are a ton of apps that would allow someone to make a profit off of the items they received. The great thing about this choice is that it allows someone to make some extra money off of the items they received and don’t need.
There are several apps that can be downloaded to a smartphone that make selling electronics online simple and easy. My favorites are eBay and 5miles. eBay is great for those that are willing to ship their item, and 5miles is for those that have an item that they want to sell locally. 5miles tends to be better with high-demand items like a MacBook or Xbox. Other items, or very expensive electronics, may have better luck selling on eBay, where they will be seen by people all over the world.
Return the Item
One simple hack (sort of like how to read someones text messages without having their phone) that someone may want to try is returning the item. If they were given a receipt, they can return the item to the place where it was purchased. Get store credit and spend the money that was invested into their gift on something they would use.
Having a Garage Sale
If there is no receipt and one has had no luck selling the device online, another option is to have an old-fashioned garage sale. Believe it or not, people still do garage sales. One may find that this is where they end up being able to sell their old electronics.
Taking Electronics to Goodwill
If someone has electronics that are older, and they don’t need, there is another option as well. There are plenty of non-profit organizations like Goodwill that will accept these devices and put them to good use. Use Google Maps to find a Goodwill, Salvation Army, or another non-profit organization near you. These will accept your old electronic devices and put them to good use with those that they are working with.
Gifts are great, but there are definitely times when one gets something that they are never going to use. Those are the times when someone can either sell it or donate it! It’s like learning how to read someones text messages without having their phone, it can be easily done. All in all, it may be a good idea to get rid of your technology anyway. Might be the way to go.
